About Picket Fence
Welcome to Picket Fence, home of our wonderful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. We’re located in Burke, Virginia, just a stone’s throw away from our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C.
We have a passion for the breed and love to study, train and show our dogs. Picket Fence Cavaliers are dual registered with the American Kennel Club and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, U.S.A. We support health testing prior to breeding and choose to have our Cavaliers annually health tested by board-certified specialists.
Though we proudly show our dogs in the conformation ring, our Cavaliers are first and foremost our companions. They live in our home as pet members of our family, and are with us wherever we go. They sit on our laps when we relax in the evening, take long walks with us when we’re trying to whittle our waistline, and are first in the car when we take a road trip. Our dogs have a spacious fenced area in our yard under a canopy of trees where they can safely chase butterflies and squirrels.
About Cavaliers
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a sweet, affectionate and loving companion with a waggly tail that never stops. Cavaliers have a gentle melting expression with large dark brown eyes, a silky coat with feathering, and are a “wash and wear” breed requiring only occasional brushing. Cavaliers get along well with children, cats, and other dogs, and are very adaptable, as long as they can be with you.
Cavaliers have some heritable conditions that can affect their health, the two most significant are mitral valve disease (MVD) and syringomyelia (SM).
Where to get a Cavalier
Reputable Cavalier breeders are guardians of the breed, striving to improve the breed’s health and longevity with each litter. When you get a puppy from a reputable breeder, you have peace of mind knowing that your puppy will have the best chance for a long, healthy life and will exhibit the traits for which Cavaliers are famous.
If you think you want a Cavalier, first educate yourself about the breed. If the Cavalier is right for you, please buy from a reputable breeder, or open your heart and home and adopt from Cavalier Rescue.
